In 1966 he graduated from Lisichansk Secondary School No. 5. In 1972 he graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute with honors and received the qualification of "mining engineer-constructor". He defended his PhD thesis in 1980, Doctorate - in 1988. In 1989 he received the academic title of professor. From 1979 worked as an assistant, and since 1984 - Assistant Professor at the Department of Mine and Underground Construction. Since 1990 until 2018 - Head of the Department of Mining and Underground Construction (nowadays Department of Construction, Geotechnics and Geomechanics), since 1995 until the present time - Vice-Rector for International Relations of the National Mining University. The chairman of the specialized council D 08.080.04 at NMU on dissertation defense. Since 1995 he has been elected member of the International Society for Geomechanics (ISRM). Expert of HAC of Ukraine in the field of geomechanics and underground construction. Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2002). Winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2002). Academician of the Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Ukraine. Scientific interests of Shashenko O.M. concern the mechanics of rocks and the stability of underground workings. He is the author of a new theory of rock heaving in the deep mines, the theory of rock strength and the scientific discovery № 131 (1999). The founder of a new trend in geomechanics - statistical geomechanics. He does a great job in training highly qualified people through postgraduate and doctoral studies. Has trained 29 Candidates and 7 Doctor of Science. He has more than 250 scientific and methodological works, including eight monographs and two textbooks. He has several thanks from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the administration of the region, the city, and the university. He was awarded the Mining Glory, Miner Valor of all 3 degree, Excellence in Education of Ukraine, anniversary medal of the National Mining Academy of Ukraine. |
